Catholic Epiphany
Description:
The New Testament tells of the journey of three Magi-kings - Kaspar, Melchior and Balthazar - from the Middle East behind the star of Bethlehem, indicated to them by the angelic choir.
It was once believed that three kings could prevent the blows of fate and take away all evil from a man, his house and livestock. According to the Gospel legend, they worshipped the newborn Jesus lying in the manger and presented him with rich gifts.
On this day on the doors of some Catholics are marked with consecrated chalk letters "KMV" and next to them - the current year.
