Dluga Targ Square

Dluga Targ Square is a continuation of Dluga Street, which begins at the entrance to Gdansk.

Description:

Dluga Targ Square (Long Market) together with Dluga Street form one of the most beautiful streets of Gdansk – the Royal Road. The most prosperous Gdansk merchants lived on Dlugi Targ, there are houses built in the XVII century.

Unfortunately, the Second World War did not spare the beautiful buildings: in 1945, almost all of them were destroyed. Therefore, now typical Gdansk houses – with narrow facades topped with pointed roofs or attics, richly decorated with coats of arms, allegorical figures and sculptures of ancient heroes – are the result of the painstaking work of Polish architects-restorers. Once Dlugi Targ was used as a market square, as well as a place of execution of eminent convicts.

Now the Long Market is a favorite place for tourists, on this street there are many souvenir shops, cafes and pubs.

Dlugi Targ originates from Dlugi Street and ends at the Green Gate, on the picturesque bank of the Motlava River.
