Poland, Malopolska Voivodeship, city of Krakow
Description:
The Panensky Rocks Reserve is located in the west of the city of Krakow and occupies part of the Belyansko-Tynets Landscape Park. Not far from the reserve is Volja Yustovska, one of the urban areas of Krakow. Local residents of these places are also called the Volsk Rocks, named after the Volsky Forest, on the territory of which the reserve is located.
On the territory of the reserve grows oak, pine, maple, robe. Some trees are hundreds of years old. Near the reserve was an old wooden church, but in 2002 it was completely destroyed by fire.
Part of the reserve is bare rocks forming the gorge Wolski-Dol, at the bottom of which there is a narrow path. Local rocks were silent witnesses of various historical events. In the distant 1241, they served as a shelter for nuns from the abuses of the Tatars, who raided these lands at that time. After these events, a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary was installed here, symbolizing the miraculous salvation of the nuns in this natural refuge.
