Krakow Gate in Lublin

loketeka 3, Lublin (Plac W1adys1awa okietka 3, Lublin)

Description:

The Krakow Gate of Lublin is the symbol and logo of the city. Stone-brick masonry is the remains of the city defensive walls of the XIV century. They appeared after a powerful Tatar invasion of the city in 1341. The lower part of the Krakow Gate retains the features of the Gothic style, the middle - Renaissance, and the upper - Baroque.

By the way, from the upper tier of the gate there is a beautiful view of the Old Town and the center of Lublin.

Their name originates from the medieval road leading to Krakow. Once the Gate heard the sounds of "heinal" (a melody performed by a trumpeter alarm). This melody can be heard in our time: every day at twelve o’clock the trumpeter appears on the balcony of the nearby Town Hall near Loketka Square.

The Krakow Gate now houses the Lublin History Museum.
