Lake Snjardva

Poland, Warmian-Mazurian Voivodeship

Description:

Lake Snyardva is located in the north-east of Poland, in the Warmian-Mazur Voivodeship. It is one of the largest lakes in Poland and is part of the Masurian Lakes. There are eight large islands on the lake. The lake is connected by a system of canals with neighboring lakes, forming a large water network, sometimes called the Great Masurian Lakes.

The shores of the lake are mostly low, swampy. In some places, coastal areas are covered with thick thickets of reeds, which creates difficulties for access to the shore. The water in Lake Snyardva is considered one of the cleanest among the lakes in Poland. This is due to the fact that no wastewater is discharged into the lake.

Snyardva, together with other lakes and coastal areas, is fully part of the Masurian Landscape Park. The lake attracts ornithologists from all over the world who come to study birds that traditionally nest on these lands. A special protective area has been created here to preserve the bird population.
