The Assumption Monastery
Poland, Warmina-Mazur Voivodeship, Pishsky Povyat, Voynovo village
Description:
The Voinovsky Assumption Monastery is located in the Warmian-Mazur Voivodeship of Poland, in the famous lake region. The name of the Orthodox women's monastery was given by the name of the village Voynovo, on the territory of which it is located.
Before the construction of the monastery in 1930, a small community of Russian Old Believers settled in these places. The community was one of the main centers of Russian Old Believers in Eastern Europe. In 1921, Priest Alexander Mikhailovich Avaev settled in the community, who later founded the Voinovsky Women's Orthodox Monastery. For a long time, the female monastic community did not formally have the status of a monastery, and only in 1995 the monastery was officially established.
In 2010, the Voinovsky Women's Monastery received the name of Uspensky.
In recent years, this place, along with a male Orthodox monastery located in nearby Suprasl, has attracted hundreds of pilgrims and tourists interested in Orthodox culture.
