Description:

Poznań Town Hall is a Renaissance structure of the middle of the XVI century, built according to the project of the Italian architect J.B. Cuadro. The monumental front facade with a three-tiered loggia, which is crowned by a high wall of Attica with three towers - this is the Poznan Town Hall known throughout Poland.

Above the arches of the covered gallery of the first floor you can see bas-reliefs depicting the distinctive virtues of the citizens: patience and prudence, love and justice, faith and hope, courage and moderation.

The other facades are not that rich. They have a lot to boast about, though. On the north facade, the inscription begins with the words Hoc opus artificis Joannis Baptistae Itali. (“This is the work of John the Baptist of Italy...”), and below it the compass and triangle are the symbols of the architect. It is also worth paying attention to the fortifications of the slopes of the tower on the north side and on the attica on the east side, which resemble a defensive wall with three towers. In the central tower there is a clock over which two metal goats appear every day at noon, beating 12 times.

Currently, the Town Hall houses the Museum of the History of the City of Poznan, with a permanent exhibition containing exhibits since the X century.
