Pilsudski Legion Bridge
Description:
The Pilsudski Legion Bridge was the longest bridge in Poland at the time of completion. It connects the left part of the city of Torun, where the railway station is located, and the right, where the Old Town is located. The bridge runs across the Vistula River.
The Pilsudski Legion Bridge was built in 1937-1938. It was designed by Polish bridge builder Andrzej Pavlovich Pshenitsky, who is known for creating the Palace Bridge project in St. Petersburg in 1901.
During World War II, in September 1939, part of the Piłsudski Legion Bridge was destroyed by an explosion by the retreating Polish army. However, with the arrival of the Germans, it was restored. The history of the bridge does not end there. During the raids, in January 1945, it was completely destroyed. It was not restored until June 1950.
