Stašica Palace

Nowy Swiat 72, Warsaw, Poland

Description:

Staszyc Palace is an ancient building of the 19th century, recognized as one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of Warsaw. The monumental exterior of the palace invariably attracts the views of tourists and photographers.

This palace was built in 1823 at the expense of the famous Polish philanthropist Stanislaw Staszyc. Over the years, the palace often changed owners - initially it housed the Society of Friends of Science, and later - the Warsaw Surgical Academy. Today the palace is owned by the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The facade of the palace is a prominent example of neoclassical architectural style, and in front of the building is a bronze statue of Nicolaus Copernicus, which is designed to symbolize the connection of the palace with the scientific community of Poland.
