Monument to Adam Miscavige

Krakowskie Przedmie & #347 cie, Warszawa, Poland

Description:

The monument to Adam Mickiewicz is located near Hoover Square, the site of numerous concerts and exhibitions. It was founded in 1898 in honor of the Polish romantic poet, author of the national poem Pan Tadeusz and numerous lyrical poems, ballads and sonnets.

This monument, whose creators are Cyprian Godebski, Józef Pius Dzekonski and Vladislav Marconi, can be called one of the most dear to the heart of the inhabitants of Warsaw. It was opened on the day of the centenary of the poet, during the period of intensified Russification after the January Uprising.

To create it, it was necessary to obtain permission from the Russian government. It was obtained on the condition that the monument would not be higher than the monument to Ivan Paskevich, the Russian field marshal who suppressed the uprising in 1831. The bronze figure of Mickiewicz is indeed smaller than the statue of Paskevich, but its pedestal is much larger.
