Description:

The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 went down in history as a battle not only for the Polish capital, but also for the future of the country. As a sign of the eternal memory of the participants of the uprising, the city authorities decided to install a monument, in 1989 the official opening of the monument took place. The sculptural group depicts soldiers of the Army of the Kraiova, who like ghosts rise from the ruins of the destroyed city and go into battle.

The author of the project of the monument was the Polish sculptor Jacek Budyn. According to the author, the monument depicts two groups of participants in the uprising. One of them holds the defense of the barricades, and the second group descends into the sewer hatch. Sewer pipes became the main means of transportation of the rebels in the city, and one of these collectors is still preserved near the memorial.

In the days of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Warsaw Uprising, it was here, in front of the monument to the fallen soldiers, the then President of Germany R. Herzog apologized to the Polish people for the brutal massacre of the rebels in 1944, as well as for the bloody Second World War initiated by the German Nazis.
