Zoo - Abakan

The Abakansky Zoo was organized in 1975 as a workshop at the Abakansky Meat Plant enterprise. In 1999, the Zoo was transformed into the Republican State Institution "Zoological Park of the Republic of Khakassia", in which there were 145 species - 470 specimens of animals and birds. Since 2002, the Zoo has been renamed the Republican State Institution "Center of Wildlife". Currently, there are 193 species of animals, birds and reptiles - more than 600 specimens. More than 40 species of animals, the Abakan Zoo are listed in the International Red Book, as well as in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Khakassia. These include animals such as the Cape lion, the East Siberian leopard, the Amur and Bengal tiger, the manul cat, the ocelot, the serval, the American cougar, the baloban falcon, eagles (steppes, burial grounds, eagles, peregrines), the pelican, mandarin ducks, the dry goose. In the spring of 2002, the zoo was admitted to the Euro-Asian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Abakansky Zoo is the largest in Eastern Siberia. The Abakan Zoo will turn 20 next year. It began with a living corner, where there was an aquarium with fish, six wavy parrots and a polar owl. Then the zoo expanded. Hunters brought from the taiga podrankas and cubs of wild animals and birds, animals came from circuses, so to speak, you are of retirement age. The menagerie was located near the production buildings of the meat processing plant "Abakansky" of the native father of the zoo. Time passed. On the basis of the meat processing plant, a joint-stock company with a beautiful name "MAVR" was formed. Growing up, constantly expanding the zoo to the parent began to contain overhead. And he sent the children to all four sides - to free bread. There is not enough strength to survive on your own. Losing a zoo is disrespecting yourself. The issue of preserving the unique living corner was decided in 1984 at the government level. As a result, the republican state institution "Zoological Park of the Republic of Khakassia" appeared on the basis of the zoo. A year ago, based on the analysis of the entire international system of zoo business in the republic, it was decided to transfer the zoo of the city of Abakan from the custody of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the jurisdiction of the State Committee for Environmental Protection and Environmental Management of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the zoo became a division of the RSU "Center of Wildlife". This decision of the RH government was introduced in Russia for the first time. As noted at the Congress of the Euro-Asian Association, in world practice, this approach is considered one of their promising. The wildlife center is not just a zoo. Here is a nursery for breeding rare and endangered wild animals and birds. Today we do not feel threatened by falcon-baloban and persan, other Red Book animals, of which there are more than 40 species. Wild animals and nicknames respond, and pet themselves give. But closer to tame their children, born in the zoo and know nothing about the expanses of the steppes and the endless sky, which is not in a cage. In order to bring the animals as close as possible to natural habitat conditions, there is a preliminary agreement on the allocation of 180 thousand hectares on the basis of the former Tashtyp industrial farm. The land is needed as a reproduction site. It is planned to build a shelter for pets. There is a prospect of joining the international program for the conservation of wildlife. It is necessary to prepare conditions for the return of animals from the zoo to nature. The status of the zoo is quite high. The indicator of stability of work and favorable living conditions is the appearance of offspring of wild animals in captivity. As a result of fruitful activity in 2001, our zoo was accepted as a member of the Euro-Asian Association of Zoos. With the opening of the summer season, thematic excursions around the zoo are planned. Thanks to the guides prepared from among students and schoolchildren of the city, those who wish will be able to learn the details of the life of the inhabitants of the zoo. On the basis of the zoo, it is planned to organize a volunteer movement in order to implement the long-term plans of the RSU "Center of Wildlife" and solve some social programs of the republic.
