Poltakovo Museum of Rock Art
Description:
The museum is located in Askiz district of the Republic of Khakassia, in the village of Poltakovo.
The Poltakovo Museum of Rock Art has 93 stone steles. On the steles there are more than 1000 unique cave paintings, representing the illustrated history of the Khakass-Minusinsk basin over the past 5 thousand years. There is no such magnificent and luxurious collection of ancient rock art in the world, so the museum attracts the attention of foreign guests.
Stelarium in the museum was inaugurated in September 2003, but the stones were collected in the surrounding steppe and installed in the late 1980s. On stone slabs there are images of deer, horses, mountain sheep, birds. Also in the exposition of the museum there are many anthropomorphic images characteristic of this culture.
