Abakan

Fortress on Mount Chalpan

Description:

Khakassia is famous for its natural panoramas and historical landmarks. In Shirinsky district rises Mount Chalpan, whose height is 586.3 meters. The name itself in translation means “rock”.

But the objects located there are noteworthy. Ruins of a medieval fortress and five scribes. In them you can see cave paintings and historical chronicles that date back to the II millennium BC. Artifacts to the XVII century AD are also presented.

The fortress protected the region from uninvited guests from the north and west during the period of feudal strife.

The whole story is presented in one architectural structure. From the top of the mountain, a wonderful landscape opens - two lakes Chalpan and Bele, the territory of the Chazy reserve, ancient caves. Getting there is not so difficult: to the city of Abakan, then on the M-54 highway to Znamenka and turn to the village of Shira. 25 km from it is a lake and a mountain.
