Cathedral of Nicholas the Wonderworker

Russia, Republic of Khakassia, Abakan, 9 Mostovaya Street.

Description:

In the center of Abakan stands the majestic Svyatonicol Cathedral. It has another name: the collection of Nicholas the Wonderworker. This building was erected in 1864. Its original premises were a bell tower and refectory. In the difficult 30s, the temple was closed and boarded up with boards. It has not been used for 14 years. Only in 1944 the cathedral was opened to all believers.

In the 80s, a large-scale reconstruction of the building was carried out. Initially, the cathedral was built of wood. After reconstruction, it was covered with brick, but preserved its original appearance. In those years, the cathedral was the only temple in the city that held regular services and received believers.

In 1995, the church received the official status of the cathedral of the diocese. Today it is an Orthodox active temple. The cathedral is located in Khakassia in the city of Abakan on Mostovaya Street 9. From the bus station you can get here by taxi or bus.
