The temple - in the name of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine
About the company:
Not far from the city of Alapaevsk, in the ancient village of Nevyansk, which was popularly called Monastyrsky, and since 1962 was renamed Kirov until 1783, there was a male Epiphany Monastery. There was a wooden church in the name of St. Catherine. It was her, having dismantled the logs, brought to Alapayevsk in 1792. Over time, the old deciduous logs fell into disrepair and the question arose about replacing the rotten tree with brick, but there was not enough money from voluntary donations for this. And then pious merchants took up the construction of a new church at their own expense: Nikolai Ivanovich Abramov and Konstantin Grigoryevich Chernykh (this was his sacrifice to God for his three-year-old daughter Claudius, who died in 1870). A beautiful stone church was built near the wooden one and consecrated in 1915. The wooden church was dismantled. The current iconostasis is a gift to the church from the workers of the metallurgical plant. It is made in the Alapayev iconostasis workshops. According to the old clear statements, “the parable in it is not supposed by the state”, “the utensils are enough”. To serve it came clergymen from the Alekseevsky temple, to which it was attributed. Godless times have begun. In 1932, the Holy Trinity (Alekseevsky) Cathedral was closed, then a bakery was arranged in it. The Church of Catherine remained active, but it (like almost all churches in the diocese) was seized by unholy renovationists. Only since the Great Thursday of 1944, when the Orthodox began to serve and take communion again, a true service according to the Orthodox order was restored in it. I saw a lot of good and bad church. When it was difficult, the Lord always offered His help and comfort. For example, in October 1918, the bodies of the Holy Martyrs Grand Duchess Elizabeth and the nun Barbara were brought to it. And in the early spring of 1954, the miraculous image of the Mother of God “Swiftly Obedient” was brought to the church, preserved by the abbess of the Bobrovsky Women’s Monastery, Schiagumenia Taisia, in the village of Kalganovo. After prayers to the Queen of Heaven in front of this icon, healings occurred repeatedly, as evidenced by the gifts on the icon. In 1995, the church was ascribed to the monastery of the New Martyrs of Russia, and now, as many years ago, it is again a compound of the monastery. This temple is famous primarily for the fact that worship in it never ceased. Starting its history from 1720, in its current form, the Catherine Church was built in 1910 at the expense of the pious but childless merchant Nikolai Chernykh and his wife Elena. After the construction of the temple, paintings were immediately made in it. Some fragments of these ancient paintings have been preserved in the domed part until now. And the iconostasis here is also the one that was established originally. All this, we can say, thanks to the heroism of the Orthodox residents of Alapayevsk, who saved the temple and its shrines from Bolshevik barbarism.
