Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia
Description:
A year later, on April 2, 1997, the Treaty on the Union of Belarus and Russia was signed, which gave a new impetus to the process of comprehensive integration of the two states.
On December 25, 1998, the presidents of Russia and Belarus signed the Declaration on Further Unity of the two countries and issued a joint statement.
In these documents, the heads of state firmly expressed their determination to continue the step-by-step movement towards voluntary amalgamation into the Union State while preserving the national sovereignty of the Union member states. At the same time, the Agreement on Equal Rights of Citizens and the Agreement on Creating Equal Conditions for Business Entities were signed.
However, in recent years, the desire to unite among politicians seems to have waned. In any case, talk about the Union State of Russia and Belarus is quieter and less common.
