The holiday was established by the Decree of Acting President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin of March 16, 2000 in recognition of the importance of the federal tax police in ensuring the economic security of the Russian Federation.
The Federal Tax Police Service is one of the youngest law enforcement agencies.
On March 18, 1992, by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the Main Directorate of Tax Investigations was established under the State Tax Service of the Russian Federation - now the Federal Tax Police Service. The main task of this structure, endowed with law enforcement powers, is the fight against tax crimes and offenses.
Since 1995, the Federal Tax Police Service has been able to work in a complete cycle (from operational development to the initiation of criminal cases and their transfer to court) and has firmly taken its place in the system of ensuring the economic security of the state.
