Old New Year
Description:
Old New Year is a rare historical phenomenon, an additional holiday, which turned out as a result of the change of chronology.
This is partly due to the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church continues to meet both the Circumcision of the Lord (which until 1918 coincided with the civil New Year), and the Nativity of Christ, like all church holidays, according to the Julian calendar. At the same time, the modern New Year falls on the pre-Christmas fast.
The tradition of celebrating the old New Year arose after 1918, when a new chronology was introduced in Russia.
In the Old Russian calendar, this day was dedicated to Vasily the Great and was called Vasilyev Day. This day was considered very important in terms of its impact on the following year.
Often, under the Old New Year, very strange events occur when people suddenly discover in themselves and others hitherto unknown sides of character, and they have a kind of split personality.
Perhaps this is due to the fact that the Old New Year itself is a kind of bifurcation of one holiday, and perhaps the call of distant ancestors who once celebrated the New Year on this night. But the fact remains that something unusual on the night of January 13-14 in people still happens.
