Museum Center "Chukotka Heritage"

The Museum Center “Chukotka Heritage” was established in 2002 by merging the Chukotka District Museum of Local History and the State Center for the Protection and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Chukotka Autonomous District. The beginning of the collections of the MC "Chukotka Heritage" was laid in 1931, to date they fully reflect the natural, historical and cultural originality of the region.

In 1935, in Anadyr, a small residential house was bought, built by the old resident of the city Nikolaev from the wooden skin of the American schooner Polar Star. On November 7, 1935, the first exposition of the museum was opened in the house. Its exhibition area was 34 square meters. So begins the history of the creation of the first and main Museum of Chukotka.

The Museum Center "Chukotka Heritage" celebrated its seventieth anniversary in its newest incarnation, in the best of the Anadyr buildings built in 2005, in a new technical and philosophical performance.

Chukotka, located in the two Earth hemispheres - the Western and Eastern, leads to an admiring state as venerable luminaries - connoisseurs of historical processes and natural masterpieces, as well as fashionable "extremes", artists, seekers of unknown adventures and untraveled routes, people unconventional, sophisticated and demanding.

The exposition of the museum in this case should be special, meeting the exquisite requirements of "gourmets", eager to experience everything new in the world with the help of new principles and methods of perception and knowledge of the world.

The synthesis of the imagination of designers and programmers has now won first place in Russia for the visiting card of the Museum Center - an elegant media exhibition, starting with which any skeptic, succumbing to the influence of virtual magic, will not experience the elegiac experiences accompanying the contemplation of antiquities about the irretrievably lost or forever gone. Video-photo-audio stream of six plasma displays and a huge projection screen – and alien to museum dust supermodern “time machine” will take you into history, art and culture, geography, ethnology, and further – there is a desire to see the physically legendary “Winged Object” or armor of the Chukotka warrior, a real yaranga in the halls of the Museum Center.

The museum center has departments: nature, history and ethnography and literary, fine and decorative and applied arts (art gallery), scientific-exposition and scientific-methodical, accounting, storage, informatization and taxidermic laboratory. There are branches in the village of Providence - the Museum of the Beringian Heritage and in the village of Markovo.

The funds collected more than 40 thousand exhibits on various topics.

The most interesting are ethnographic, archaeological, mineralogical, paleontological collections, as well as a collection of decorative, applied and bone carving art.

The Museum Center carries out a number of museum programs: “Museum and Children” (on the basis of an ethno-historical playground), “Ecology through the eyes of children”, “Folklore lessons”, “Return of lost relics”; cooperates with domestic and foreign museums, research and public organizations.

Every year the Museum Center "Chukotka Heritage" is visited by more than 12 thousand people.
