Angarsk

Angarsk is located in Eastern Siberia. In 2003, the settlement took second place in the "Competition for the most comfortable city in Russia". In 2013, in the competition “The cleanest city of Russia” received the first place in the category “Big cities”.

Angarsk was founded in 1948, is located in the interfluve of Angara and Quitoya.

Population: 226,374 (2017). Angarsk is located 50 kilometers from Irkutsk.

Angarsk is one of three cities of two hundred thousand people (along with Balakovo and Nizhnekamsk), deprived of the status of an urban district. In 2005, the city held numerous speeches for assigning the Angarsk Ministry of Defense the status of an urban district, and in April 2006, the population of Angarsk voted in a referendum for unification with the villages of Meget and Savvateevka into a single municipal entity. Odinsk village refused to take part in the referendum, moving it to the spring of 2007. In the spring of 2007, deputies of the village of Odinsk again refused to call a referendum, depriving residents of the opportunity to determine the fate of Angarsk. As a result, no decision was made on the status of the city district. In May 2006, the governor of the Irkutsk region Alexander Tishanin proposed another option - to unite the cities of Irkutsk, Angarsk, Shelekhov and many other settlements into one municipal formation, but in connection with the resignation of A.G. Tishanin, consideration of this project was postponed indefinitely.

The largest enterprises of Angarsk: Angarsk Petrochemical Company and Angarsk Electrolysis Chemical Plant, there are dairy, meat and bakery plants, an ice cream factory, a poultry farm.
