Museum-archive of the history of the study and development of the European North

Apatity, Akademgorodok microdistrict, 40A

About the company:

" . Anyone who wants to see the genius of man in his noblest struggle against superstition and darkness, let him read the history of Arctic travels, read about the people who walked with flying banners towards the unknown. Nowhere, perhaps, was knowledge bought at the cost of great hardship, misery and suffering. But human genius will not rest until there is not a single inch left in these parts, on which man's foot does not step, until all the secrets are revealed there, in the North. These words of the remarkable Norwegian researcher Fridtjof Nansen reflect the content of the Museum’s exposition.

The Museum-Archive of the History of the Study and Development of the European North of Russia Center for Humanities Research KSC RAS was founded in 1974 and is included in the nomenclature of museums of the Academy of Sciences of Russia. Its creation was attended by employees of the USSR KFAN, members of the geographical society. The ideological inspirer and organizer was the chairman of the Northern branch of the Geographical Society c.g. Boris Ivanovich Koshechkin, the author of several popular books about the history of the Kola North.
The uniqueness of this museum is dictated by a special task: to show the processes of settlement and development of the European North of Russia through the history of scientific research in various areas.
