The building of the former cinema "North"

d. Arkhangelsk, per. Theatre, 4

About the company:

The building of the cinema Sever was built at the end of the XVIII century, and was originally intended for trade shops. A little later, another significant room was added to them and the first 115 kW DC power plant appeared in Arkhangelsk.

In 1914, one of the co-owners of the station asked the mayor about the placement of the electric theater "Edison", which in the conditions of silent cinema will show the audience of old Arkhangelsk sound films on the Edison apparatus "Kinetophone".

The discovery of Edison’s cinema made a real furor. The auditorium held 466 seats and another 100 seats in the foyer. In 1950, Edison was renamed the North Cinema, which functioned until 1991. In 1996, the building was transferred to the State Museum Association “Artistic Culture of the Russian North”.

Restoration and restoration work is underway in the building. Upon completion, a museum, educational and information center will open in this building with a library, a media center, and a multifunctional conference room.
