The Church of Zosima by Savvat and Herman Solovetsky
d. Arkhangelsk, Embankment of the Northern Dvina 77/1
Description:
The temple of the Monks Zosima, Savvatius and Herman Solovetsky has a very original architectural solution. The building of the temple is inscribed in the city ensemble on the embankment of the Northern Dvina and is literally squeezed by buildings of the XIX century. The temple itself, which is part of the compound of the Solovetsky Savior-Transfiguration Stavropegian Monastery, is noticeable from afar.
The temple was consecrated in 1998 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II by Bishop Tikhon of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogorsk. The stone three-headed temple is crowned with gilded crosses and a small tent bell tower above the entrance at the embankment.
In Soviet times, the church was closed, and the entire compound of the monastery was liquidated, but today the activity of the monastery has been restored.
The main shrine of the temple is the icon of the Monks Zosimas, Savvatius and Herman with particles of relics.
