Krasnogorsk Bogoroditsky Monastery

Russia, Arkhangelsk region, p. Red Gorka

Description:

On the most beautiful bank of the Pinega River and not far from Arkhangelsk is the Krasnogorsk Bogoroditsky Monastery, known for its shrines. The first shrine is considered to be the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, installed on the site of the future monastery, after the revealed dream to hegumen Varlaam. The miraculous icon was handed over in 1606 to St. Makary of Krasnogorsk (in the world - Myron).

In 1608, a wooden church and other monastic buildings were built on the Black Mountain. At this time, the monastery brings a second shrine - the miraculous Georgian icon of the Mother of God. Purchased in Persia’s largest market, it was donated by merchant Yegor Lytkin. Later, Yegor Lytkin was a permanent patron, erecting stone temples and churches.

Unfortunately, the efforts of the ancestors to improve and strengthen the monastery were in vain. In 1920 the Krasnogorsk Bogoroditsky Monastery was closed and ruined. The fate of the two icons is unknown. It is mentioned only in archival documents that in 1946 the Georgian Icon of the Mother of God was worn during the procession in Arkhangelsk. Until the 1990s of the XX century, a psychoneurological boarding school was located in the monastery buildings. Only in 2006 began restoration work on the residential buildings of the monastery and then for the needs of the tourist complex "Red Gorka".
