Monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union N.G. Kuznetsov

d. Arkhangelsk, crossroads. Sev. Dvina and st. Garden

Description:

Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov was a naval commander during the most tense period in the history of the Soviet Union. He developed a system of bringing the fleet into combat readiness, which in fact determined the very beginning of the course of the war at the time of the attack of fascist Germany. In Arkhangelsk, the hometown of the admiral, there is a monument to his heroism and courage. This is the first monument to Nikolai Kuznetsov, previously immortalized only in memorial busts.

Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov headed the Soviet Navy from 1939 to 1946. A few hours before the declaration of war, he organized a full mobilization of the fleet and at midnight on June 22, 1941, all forces were ready to repel the attack. As a result of this preparation, enemy strikes were met by trained and instructed sailors and no ships or aircraft were lost in the first battles.

The monument to Nikolai Kuznetsov was opened on May 8, 2010. Its implementation became possible thanks to the residents of Arkhangelsk, who for several years voluntarily collected funds for its construction. On the embankment of the Northern Dvina there is a bronze pedestal, personifying a fragment of the ship, on which the figure of the naval commander himself stands.
