Monument to Peter and Fevronia Muromsky

at the intersection of Loginov Street and the Northern Dvina embankment

Description:

Near the temple of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in 2009, a monument to Peter and Fevronia of Murom was erected. These two saints became patrons of family and marriage, embodying the main spiritual values and ideals in their lives. The monument is installed next to the bridge, on which young people traditionally hang locks as a sign of the inviolability of their union.

The author of the project was Konstantin Chernyavsky. The three-meter monument depicts the scene of the return of Princes Peter and Fevronia from exile back to the reign of Murom. At the opening of the monument, Bishop Tikhon of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogorsk said: It is love, harmony, loyalty that our families sometimes lack. A strong family is the basis for the might of our vast country.” The creation of the monument in Arkhangelsk took place within the framework of the program “In the circle of the family”.

After the installation of the monument, a new tradition appeared among the newlyweds, who after marriage or wedding come to venerate the Murom saints and ask for their blessing.
