Monument to the Defenders of the Soviet North 1918-1920

Arkhangelsk, near the Palace of Sports Trade Unions

Description:

Initially, the monument to the “Valiant Defenders of the Soviet North” was erected on the Trade Union Square. Arkhangelsk took an active part in the fight against the interventionists in the north during the Civil War.

These difficult times were marked by the division of the country's population into two militant camps, the invasion of the interventionists and the urgently created guerrilla detachments to restrain their advance. In memory of these years, which claimed many lives, this monument was created.

The authors of the project were the winner of the state award sculptor Yu.N. Lokhovnin and Honored Architect of the RSFSR M.V. Chernov. A few years ago, the monument was moved and erected in front of the Arkhangelsk Palace of Sports of Trade Unions.
