Kuropolka River

Russia, Arkhangelsk region, Kholmogorsky district, Kholmogory village

Description:

The Kuropolka River is the western arm of the Northern Dvina River. It flows past the city of Kholmogory, which is located on its left bank.

To the right of the river there is a large island Kurostrov – the birthplace of the famous Russian scientist, physicist, astronomer and poet M.V. Lomonosov. Kuropolka near Kholmogor turns very steeply to the north-west, because of which ducts and islets are formed. There are crossings between the islands, thanks to which you can reach the village of Lomonosov.

In a strong flood, Kuropolka overflows and floods the city and its surroundings, which brings considerable damage to residents.
