Sculpture of Archangel Michael
street Ilyinskaya, Arkhangelsk
Description:
On the territory of the Orthodox diocese on Ilyinskaya Street there is a small but very symbolic monument to the patron of Arkhangelsk - a monument to the Archangel Michael. It appeared here on the project of sculptor Alexei Blagovestnov in 2002 near the cemetery church for the bright Easter holiday. Archangel Michael throughout history preserves the city and helps in difficult times to survive everyday hardships.
According to the author’s plan, a tall young man in armor and an unusually beautiful face raises a fiery sword. He has two beautiful wings behind him. The bronze monument was realized thanks to the support of the Andrei Rublev Russian Foundation for Architectural Heritage. On Easter, at the opening of the monument, the sculpture was consecrated by the Archangel and Kholmogorsk Bishop Tikhon.
