About the company:

The Northern Maritime Museum is located in the historical center of the city, it is from here that Arkhangelsk began as a monastery center and as the main port. The museum itself is located in the building of the former sea station and between two piers: the former Cathedral (now Red) and the so-called Wharf of Far Expeditions. There was also a restaurant "North" and customs warehouses.

The museum was created in the 1970s by sailors of the Northern Shipping Company.

In 1993, the museum received state status. The exhibits of the museum “tell” the whole history of marine development of the North, starting with the maritime charter written by Peter I (in our fund reprint of 1825).

Emphasis is placed on the fundamental role of Arkhangelsk – the first international seaport of Russia, the cradle of domestic public and private shipbuilding, the center of study, development and practical use of Arctic resources.

The exposition space of the “Millennium of Northern Navigation” is stylized as a “sailing ship”, where decorative structures are made in the form of various fragments of ship drawings, rigging details, elements of the internal and external structure of the vessel.

The museum exposition is conditionally divided into two thematic parts: “The Age of Sailing Fleet” (XI – the middle of the XIX century) and “The Age of Ships with Metal Corps” (late XIX – XX centuries). Here, along with authentic historical monuments (archive documents, rare books, maps, Pomeranian gear, etc.), a variety of auxiliary materials are presented - models of ships and ships, models of ship equipment, various ship devices and instruments.
