Travel to Arzamas (car and walking program)

Arzamas is the fourth city on the map of the Nizhny Novgorod region. It appeared, as is commonly believed, at the behest of the Moscow Tsar Ivan the Terrible, and, which is very significant, was and remains the only city in our region, the coat of arms of which is not captured Nizhny Novgorod noble deer!

In the past centuries, Arzamas played a huge economic role in the life of Russia, being, above all, one of the largest centers of leather and skinning production. Of great importance was its geographical position at the crossroads of important trade routes. Foreigners were frequent guests here.

I have never been deprived of this glorious city and the attention of our talented compatriots. Arzamas is associated with the names of many famous writers: Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, Pavel Melnikov-Pechersky, Maxim Gorky, as well as Arkady Gaidar - here he spent his childhood.

And in this corner of our Fatherland, thanks to the efforts of the artist Alexander Stupin, the oldest provincial school of painting in Russia appeared. The legacy of the Stupin school is represented by many beautiful paintings, frescoes, paintings stored in the best museums of Russia and decorating such architectural masterpieces as, for example, St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg. However, the temples that you will see in Arzamas will not leave you indifferent - they are quite suitable for becoming a capital city!
