The route of the ecological trail begins with the central cordon of the Damchiksky section of the reserve. Tourists are instructed on safety on the water and are located in long motor boats, repeating the shape of fishing boats built in the lower reaches of the Volga since ancient times.
The central cordon of the Damchiksky section of the Astrakhan Reserve is located on the bank of the Brystraya duct - this is the channel of the Old Volga, so if you order a 3-hour excursion to the avandelta, you can get to the confluence of the Volga into the Caspian Sea!
The first part of the route passes through the picturesque Volga ducts, among reed thickets and gallery willow forests. If you look closely forward, on the sides and deep into the coastal thickets, you can see a lot of interesting things.
Closer to the water, on the branches of trees and snags, herons, kvakvahs and kingfishers usually sit, and on the tops of tall trees the owner of the delta, the white-tailed eagle, proudly sits. Birds of prey often soar high in the sky, but an experienced guide will always be able to see them in height and tell interesting facts about the life of eagles, kobchikov, chaeglok and osprey.
If you are lucky, you can see the unforgettable hunting scene of the white-tailed eagle as he snatches fish from the water with lightning speed. Often this mighty bird accompanies the boat with excursionists for a long time, as if watching them. The Volga Delta has the largest population of white-tailed eagles in Europe, so a great photo of this rare bird can be taken even during the shortest boat tour.
Having traveled several kilometers along the water route, the boats dock to the wooden platform of the beginning of the ecological trail, which hid in one of the winding eriks branching from the main channel.
