Mount Bogdo

Astrakhan, Russia

Description:

Mount Big Bogdo is a real miracle of nature. It is a small, comma-shaped ridge and is the highest point of the Caspian lowland, rising on the southern shore of Lake Baskunchak, located on the territory of the reserve.

Its name means “Holy Mountain”. This natural wonder has long been considered a place of power and is now a sacred place for Buddhist pilgrims.

Under the mountain stretches a unique karst labyrinth of caves. At the moment there are more than 30. The color of the mountain is also unusual - on the one hand it has a bright red hue, due to the high concentration of metals.

It is also the only place in Europe where rocks rich in skeletal remains come to the surface. The mountain brought to us well-preserved fossil remains of the Mesozoic era.
Also, it is surprising that it is constantly increasing - a year by 1 mm, and sings - after all, from the caves, where the wind walks, just incredible sounds are heard.

At the entrance to the mountain there is a checkpoint. There you will pay a small fee and you will be instructed on the rules of behavior in the reserve. Then you can continue your trip and enjoy an unforgettable spectacle.
