About the company:
The Astrakhan Museum of Military Glory is located in the building of the early XX century - a monument of history and architecture of federal significance. Today, more than 3,500 museum exhibits are placed in nine exhibition halls.
The building of the former Board of the Astrakhan Cossack Army, where the museum is currently located, was built in 1906-1907 on the site of a two-storey merchant mansion on Gubernaya Square. The author of the building was the architect Viktor Varganek-Valdovsky - he owns the projects of several Astrakhan buildings of the early XX century.
In Soviet times, the building was given to the Commissariat for Internal Affairs, later to the editorial office of the newspaper “Communist”, the House of Engineering and Technical Workers and the command of the rifle and machine gun school. During the war, the headquarters of the Stalingrad Military District was located here.
In 1975, the exposition of the Museum of Military Glory was placed on the first floor of the historic house. 10 years later, on the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the exhibits of the museum occupied the entire three-storey building.
The exposition of the Museum of Military Glory introduces the exploits of the residents of Astrakhan at the front and in the rear. Each of the halls tells about a separate stage in the formation of the Armed Forces of the country, about the development of the Russian army from the XVI to the XX century. Among the original exhibits are personal belongings of combatants, documents, models, samples of small arms and military equipment, as well as works of art and sculptures of the war.
To the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the museum has an exposition “Fatherlands faithful sons”, dedicated to Astrakhan residents – participants in conflicts in hot spots. Innovative museum site "Immersion" is equipped with media technologies - here the atmosphere of the city Stalingrad apartment of the 40s of the XX century is recreated. The exposition uses sound and light special effects that “immerse” visitors during the Second World War. To the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, the Museum of Military Glory opened the exposition “The Afghan War and the participation of Astrakhan citizens in it.”
