Travel around Balakhna and its surroundings (car and pedestrian program)

I invite you to Balakhna - a small city of the Nizhny Novgorod Territory, located at a distance of 19 km from the regional center. Today, its population is only 50,000 people, and in former times in its number of yards it was quite comparable to Nizhny Novgorod!

We will travel not only in space but also in time. After all, two of the greatest heroes of the Great Troubles of the XVII century are connected with Balakhna: Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and the Posad man Kozma Minin!

And two centuries earlier, Balakhna was the only place in Russia where salt was mined! Nowadays, its industrial production can also be quite real!

And in this glorious city, ships were launched, large brick factories were built. Women weaved lace, highly valued by foreigners. It was in Balakhna that the first oil refinery in Russia began to operate in the XIX century. And in the first half of the XX century, it was here that the first hydroelectric power plant began to operate, which gave energy to a number of now legendary industrial enterprises (one of them is GAZ).

During the trip you will see the oldest temples of the Nizhny Novgorod land, one of which is stone, and the second is wooden! Moreover, the second church (Kazan church in the village of Burtsevo) is generally the oldest wooden building in our region. It has existed since the beginning of the XVII century!
