Balakovo

Church of the Holy Trinity in Balakovo

Description:

The construction of a large stone church in Balakov became possible after the Manifesto of Emperor Nicholas II “On Tolerance” of April 17 (29), 1905. Before that, stone churches were not allowed to build Old Believers (the only exception was the residence of the Old Believers - Rogozhskoe cemetery in Moscow).

The construction costs were borne by merchant Anisim Maltsev. The project of the temple in 1909 was prepared by architect F. Shechtel. During 1910-1914 he personally came to Balakovo to control the progress of construction, which was conducted under the leadership of engineer Antonov.
