Monument to Elizabeth
near the Northern Mole, Baltiysk, Russia
Description:
A monument dedicated to Empress Elizaveta Petrovna appeared in the westernmost city of Russia in 2004. Its author, the sculptor G. Frangulyan, dedicated it to all the Russian victories won during the reign of the emperor. Therefore, Elizabeth is depicted on a horse in the appropriate guise, that is, in the form of a colonel of the Life Guards of the Preobrazhensky regiment. The bronze monument weighing 12 tons stands on a powerful pedestal, which resembles a fort. The monument also shows some resemblance to the famous Copper Rider in St. Petersburg.
This monument is almost the first thing seen by everyone who comes from the sea to Baltiysk. In urban plans, there is an idea to make a cultural and historical center inside the stone pedestal.
