Fortification at Pillau
Description:
In the seventeenth century, as a result of the Polish-Swedish War of 1626-1629, the settlement of Pillau was occupied by the Swedish army. In 1626, King Gustav II of Sweden landed. at Pillau from the sea and entered the city. Pillau was captured in three hours. Swedes laid one of the main attractions of modern Baltiysk - a star-shaped pentagonal fortress (cytadel) Pillau, which has survived to this day. The city has preserved Fort Stile, East, the ruins of Fort West, coastal battery built in 1888. A network of fortifications and underground passages surrounds the whole of Baltiysk, still not all objects are fully studied and explored, most of the underground passages are walled up with a three-meter layer of concrete (for security purposes), for history lovers there is a look and explore.
