About the company:
One of the most beautiful buildings of the city of Belgorod is the building of the Belgorod State Drama Theatre. In this, built by architect V.M. Mimarenko, a building decorated with an eight-column portico and staircase with wide granite steps, the theater moved in 1962. The theater was founded in 1935 and was originally located in the building of the historical museum.
The theater bears the name of a native of Belgorod region, an outstanding Russian actor, the founder of realism in Russian stage art - Mikhail Semenovich Shchepkin. In 1988, in honor of the 200th anniversary of M. S. Shchepkin in Belgorod, near the Smolensk Cathedral, a monument to the great actor was erected. After 10 years, the monument was moved and now it is located near the theater. Many famous theaters of Russia participate in the festivals “Actors of Russia – Mikhail Shchepkin” held in Belgorod.
Over the years, wonderful actors and directors worked in the theater. A long-standing creative friendship connects the theater with the famous staff of the academic Maly Theatre. In the Belgorod performances played E. Bystritskaya, I. Ilyinsky, M. Zharov and other masters of the great stage.
Not so long ago, a major reconstruction of the theater was completed. In a relatively short period of time (one year), the building has changed beyond recognition. Comfortable and cozy dressing rooms, modern high-quality equipment, European design, surprisingly beautiful curtain and armchairs, a new museum, a restaurant... Now this is one of the most beautiful and equipped theaters in Russia.
