Description:

Uspsenko-Nikolaev Cathedral is an Orthodox cathedral in Belgorod, which was built in 1703. This is the oldest surviving cathedral of the city.

Since the XVIII century, a wooden church was located on the site of the temple, which later burned down. The cathedral on this site was built between 1692 and 1703. In 1701, Peter the Great allocated funds for its construction. In the mid 1750s, a fire broke out in the temple, after which it was rebuilt.

After the revolution, the cathedral was closed, in the early 1930s it was used as a prison, and in the 50-80s it housed a bakery. In 1993, the Marfo-Maria convent was opened at the cathedral. And only in 1998 the temple was transferred to the church and restoration began. The cathedral was fully restored by 2005.
