Belsk Museum of Local History
About the company:
The Biel Museum of Local Lore is one of the oldest in the Tver region. According to archival documents, in December 1919 it was “begun to organize a museum” in White, which concentrated noble things taken from the estates of the county. On August 14, 1925, the museum was opened at the local society of local history. At the end of the thirties, a new local history exposition was opened in White. At that time, about 400 exhibits were stored in the museum funds. The museum was proud of its collection of silver Byzantine and Arabic coins of the 12th and 13th centuries from a treasure discovered near the village of Gridyakino. In 1937 the city received a new exhibition. However, it was first occupied by the Germans in October 1941. After the war, the collection of local history materials was engaged in the spouses V.K. Ilyin and P.V. Ivanov. These materials became the basis of the new museum exposition. In 1979, the museum became part of the Tver State United Museum. Currently, the museum fund exceeds 6000 exhibits. These are documents, photographs, weapons, objects of ethnography, technology, archaeology, art. They tell us about all stages of our history. In 2008, on the 65th anniversary of the liberation of White from Nazi invaders, a new exhibition was opened in the museum, which tells about the history of the region from the 14th century to the present day.
