675000, Blagoveshchensk, Per. Railroad, 15
Description:
The Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos is the main temple of the Annunciation diocese. Its abbot is the ruling bishop himself, Archbishop Gabriel of Annunciation and Tyndina.
The temple is built on a historical, sacred place for local residents, where until 1980 stood the first building of Blagoveshchensk - St. Nicholas Church. The architectural project of the cathedral was developed in the traditional “brick” style, characteristic of Orthodox churches of the late XIX century.
Construction of the modern cathedral began on February 15, 1997 with the consecration of the site and the installation of the cross. In 1998, due to the common economic difficulties for the whole country, which affected the financing of the construction of the temple, the question of preserving the construction arose, but popular support allowed to continue the work. In the summer of 2000, the temple was decorated with all its domes, and the cathedral acquired its finished appearance, immediately becoming one of the main attractions of the city of Blagoveshchensk and the entire Amur Region as a whole. The interior decoration of the temple was completed by the end of 2002.
The temple is crowned with seven gilded domes, and the eighth gilded dome makes the bell tower. The height of the main dome to the base of the cross is 38.85 meters, the height of the bell tower is 32.5 meters. Designed for 540 worshippers, inside the temple is 21.12 meters high from floor to dome. Around the cathedral there is a concrete path with a width of 3.5 meters for making cross processions.
The temple houses the Far Eastern shrine - the Albazinsk Icon of the Mother of God, which appeared on the banks of the Amur in 1667.
