Monument "Grateful Russia to its Defenders"

borodino, Moscow Region, Russia

Description:

The monument “Grateful Russia to its Defenders” was founded in the middle of 1912 according to the project of the famous architect S. K. Rodionov at the fork of the road that leads to the Spaso-Borodino Monastery. It is a grand quadrangular obelisk, located on a gray powerful granite pedestal. The monument is a multi-tiered pyramid consisting of artillery trunks topped by the coats of arms of Russian cities, which donated funds for the construction of the structure.

At the top of the monument is the figure of the great George the Victorious in a laurel wreath. On the side faces of the base of the pyramid are engraved words once said by Nicholas II and Alexander I about the great exploits of fearless heroes participating in the battle of Borodino. In Soviet times, the monument was demolished, but was restored in 1995. Currently, the building attracts local residents and tourists who come to the monument to honor the memory of brave soldiers.
