Borodino Museum

The State Military Historical Museum-Reserve of Borodino was founded in 1839. Today it is recognized as one of the most valuable objects of cultural heritage of Russia. Acquaintance with the large-scale exposition of the museum begins already in the building of the railway station, where the exhibition Borodino Field was opened to the 190th anniversary of the great battle. His past and present is dedicated to the heroes and events of the “bygone days”, including the battles in October 1941.

The whole museum complex is of interest to visitors, including the main exposition “Borodino-Battle of Giants” in the center of the Borodino field in the pavilion near the Raevsky battery and additional, but no less interesting expositions located on the territory of the Spaso-Borodino monastery: “Borodino during the Great Patriotic War”, “House-Museum of the Abbesss Maria”, “Heroes of the novel “War and Peace” on the Borodino field”, as well as the exhibition “Military Art Toy”.

The main exhibition “Borodino – Battle of Giants” presents authentic items related to the battle. Here you will see weapons and military uniforms of soldiers of both armies, banners, awards, standards, maps, various documents and personal belongings of the participants of the battle. As well as paintings painted by contemporaries and directly participants in the military events of 1812.

The exhibition "Military Art Toy" is very interesting, especially for young visitors to the museum. There are also figures of soldiers of different eras and a model of one of the episodes of the battle of Borodino, where anyone can play, as far as imagination allows, any outcome of the battle.

In the refectory room of the Spaso-Borodino Monastery is located the Military Gallery of the Borodino Field with portraits of generals, officers and soldiers of the Russian army. In total, more than 70 were presented

such portraits.

The exposition “House-Museum of Abbess Maria” recreates the interior of the living rooms of Mother Maria (Margarita Mikhailovna Tuchkova in the world), the founder of the Spasi-Borodino monastery.

Be sure to visit the military-historical settlement “Doronino” on the territory of the Borodino museum complex to learn for sure how soldiers and officers of the Russian army lived during the Patriotic War of 1812, and even taste real military porridge. The unique exposition of the village of the XIX century recreates the life of peasants and military people of that time.
