About the company:

The opening of the Bryansk Drama Theatre took place on November 7, 1926. The building of the theater was built in the city center according to the project of the Moscow architect-constructivist A.Z. Grinberg. In the history of the city, it was the first theater building that really meets the scenic tasks. The first theatrical season opened with a play based on the play by N.N. Lerner “Decembrists”. In 1926-1927, the repertoire of the theater included plays by William Shakespeare, Friedrich Schiller, Alexander Ostrovsky, Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gogol, Anton Chekhov, Alexei Gorky.

By the time of the Great Patriotic War, the theater troupe was on tour in Grodno. Many artists joined the army, participated in the partisan movement. Of the 70 participants of the tour in Grodno, only 11 returned to Bryansk, the rest died or went missing.

During the retreat in 1943, the Nazis mined the theater building. The explosion caused huge material damage to the theater.

In September 1944, it was decided to organize the Bryansk Regional Drama Theatre. The troupe was formed from the collective of the Noginsky City Drama Theater, and before the construction of the building was completed, it was located in Bezhitsa in the building of the House of Technology. In the autumn of 1949, the restored and reconstructed theater in Bryansk opened a new season.

In the postwar period in the repertoire of the theater the main was the military-patriotic theme. And for its 70th anniversary in 1996, the theater staged the play “Prince of Silver” based on the novel by Alexei Tolstoy, whose name is the theater.

The theater staff has a rich geography of tours, annually goes on the so-called "small tour" in the Bryansk region.
