Mountain-Nikol Diocesan Monastery
Description:
In the middle of the XVIII century in Russia merchants became rich. Merchants rolled noisy rampant festivities, traded widely, fought with competitors by all possible methods, but did not forget about patronage. At that time, many temples were built on their money, which are rightfully considered today architectural monuments.
In Bryansk, the Gorno-Nikolsky temple is deservedly ranked among those. It was built in 1751 at the expense of merchants Koltsov brothers.
The temple has remained almost unchanged until today, only the interior decoration has not survived. After the revolution, the temple operated for almost 11 years, but still was closed. The building was lucky: it was not given for a vegetable depot, but an archive was arranged in it, and then a planetarium.
Only in 2002 the building received the status of Gorno-Nikolsky male diocesan monastery. In 2010, it was declared a conciliar.
It is considered perhaps the most significant architectural heritage of Bryansk.
