The Temple of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God

Bryansk region, Bryansk district, Bryansk, str. Upper Lubyanka, 108

Description:

The temple of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was built on the site of the wooden temple of Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria, so initially the temple was two-chroned. The construction of the Tikhvin temple began in 1755 on the initiative of Bryansk merchants Bukhteev. Over time, the warm winter temple was expanded, an additional chapel was added in the name of St. Tikhon. The temple ceased to exist in 1937, when its abbot Konstantin Afanasyev was arrested and shot. The temple was closed and partially dismantled - the bell tower and the head of the temple went for construction, inside the room was redesigned as a warehouse.

The restoration of the ham was undertaken by architects V. N. Gorodkov and E. M. Kodisov only in the late 80s. The return of the original historical appearance took almost ten years. After the return of the Orthodox community, divine services resumed in the church, a Sunday school opened. A separate chapel was built over the Holy Spring, which has been at the temple since its foundation.
