Museum-Reserve of Tyutchev in the village of Ovstug

Bryansk region, Zhukovsky district, Ovstugh village

Description:

The museum-reserve of F.I. Tyutchev in the village of Ovstugh is a memorial historical and literary museum complex located in the poet’s homeland in the Bryansk region.

The history of Ovstug is inextricably linked with the name of the Russian poet and diplomat Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev, who was born here in 1803. In this village, the former part of the family allotment of the Tyutchevs, the poet’s childhood passed.

The Tyutchev estate in Ovstuga has its history since the middle of the XVIII century. It is known that Major Nikolai Tyutchev, after marrying a local noblewoman Pelage Panyutina, received land along the bank of the Ostuzhenka River. The construction of a new master's house dates back to the seventies of the XVIII century. The old stone house witnessed the birth of F.I. Tyutchev and then served him and his children. In the middle of the XIX century, the estate began to come into desolation, and the house was dismantled.

The revival of the estate began in the eighties of the XX century, and the first exposition of the museum-reserve of F.I. Tyutchev opened in the summer of 1989.

Today, the museum includes a manor house, a windmill, outbuildings of the Tyutchev estate and the Church of the Time of the Virgin, next to which is the grave of Ivan Nikolaevich Tyutchev, the father of the poet.

Also on the territory of the museum-reserve there is a monument to F.I. Tyutchev.
