The museum opened on November 8, 1963. It was a public museum for 15 years. Since 1978 - a branch of the Perm Regional Museum of Local History.
The main exposition is the history of the city, which arose during the construction of the Votkinskaya HPP (1954-1980).
Since 1993, the museum has opened a historical and enographic sector and a museum "Peasant Old Believer Estate Kon.XIX - XX centuries". The house - a monument of architecture - built in horseback. XVIII century.
